Spring 2018 Italian for Travelers class reaches its virtual destination.
By Francesca Eugeni McAfee, 6/13/2018
Salve carissimi. Siamo arrivati a destinazione.
We made it! We reached the final destination in our 12-week journey into the Italian language. And what a journey that was. I think I speak for the entire class when I say that we had a blast. Your enthusiasm and sense of humor were contagious. Thank you for sharing your travel experiences and future itineraries with the class. Your travel plans are thorough, heartfelt, and, in some cases, daring!
You now have a fully stocked toolkit to survive your impending travels to Italy. You know how to inquire about the spare tire in your rental car before you get a flat tire. You know how to ask for directions to the nearest gas station before you run out of gas. And you know how to ask for a tow truck in case all else fails.
Most importantly, you now have a deeper understanding of the Italian culture with all its quirks and unspoken rules waiting to be broken. I trust that you will travel to Italy with new confidence in your command of the Italian language, and that you will be brave enough to test your skills.
I can’t wait to read about your adventures in this blog, and I hope to see you all in the fall ready to embark in a new journey into the Italian language.
